Special Housing Solutions

Concepts for rough industrial environments

Standard housings in standard designs cannot be used if only a limited, exactly defined amount of space is available for the computer unit of a machine. Such applications call for solutions that the embedded concept accommodates.

In conjunction with the development of your customized industrial PC system, ELTEC offers the following options:

  • Special housing solutions–covering everything from special selections to customized designs
  • Motherboards–customized based on budgetary or performance requirements
  • Modular concepts–they offer the full bandwidth from standard to specialty
  • Peripheral equipment–optimally integrated into our housings
  • Service and maintenance agreements that guarantee you predefined response times

Consideration of ambient conditions

  • Housings designed for up to 50 °C vacuum temperature with powerful fresh air ventilation
  • Vacuum inputs are placed where they are needed

Special installations
  • Housings equipped with power supply adaptors and disk trays that can be replaced/accessed from the exterior
  • Power supply adapters for the external peripheral equipment can be integrated into the PC housing
  • Opto-uncoupling process I/O

Material options
  • Zinc-coated steel-based sheet metal
  • Painted housings
  • Stainless steel
  • Galvanized options

The interior of the housings also has to be a perfect match
  • Design of tempered boards
  • Custom fitting of standard boards
  • Certified expanded temperature ranges
  • Vibration resistant interiors
  • MTBF computations based on MIL-HDBK-217
  • Housing designs that do not exchange air with their surroundings

Cooling Concepts

Embedded computers with modern processors generate a lot of heat. Given that these PCs do not have to work in office environments, there is a risk that the computer will overheat and fail. Special know-how is required to make sure the heat is removed from the interior of the housing.

Expanded temperature ranges

  • PCs with 0 °C to 50°C vacuum temperature for installation into LCD panels
  • VMEbus CPU with PMC expansion for temperature ranges from -40 °C to +70 °C
  • Reinforced fan sequences–a simple and cost-effective solution whenever ample space is available
  • Choice of a power cord adapter that is approved for use in temperature ranges from 0 °C to 50 °C thanks to de-rating

Cooling system optimization through materials, designs and fan-coupling
  • Cooling systems in flat designs for installation at heights of 20 mm
  • Material and fan selection for CPU cooling from 0 °C to 60 °C

Heat chamber testing, 100 % upon request
  • -40 °C to +70 °C testing for the expanded use of a COTS-CPU

Heat pipe cooling
  • Diversion of heat from the CPU and chip set to cooled housing walls

Fan-free housings for use in high dust environments
  • With internal air circulation or without any moving
